“My cricketing career is completely unstained and I'm surprised at such allegations,” said Kaneria, who is yet to join his county side as the season gets underway. The delay in his departure has given the British media enough fuel to speculate that Kaneria is one of the two players under investigation for ‘match irregularities’ by local police.
A statement from Essex Police read: “Following allegations received about two Essex County Cricket players involved in match irregularities, we have initiated an investigation and are working closely with Essex County Cricket Club and the English Cricket Board.”
The speculations, if true, will come as a big blow for the Pakistan Cricket Board which has already banned and fined players for indiscipline.—PPI
