IFI lauds Pakistan’s economic reforms
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday urged the World Bank to help Pakistan overcome severe energy and water crisis. Talking to Vice President for the South Asia Region, Isabel M Guerrero who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said the democratic government had taken difficult and unpopular decisions for economic recovery.
The President urged the World Bank to consider financing energy and water sector projects in Pakistan. He said that severe energy and water crisis were adversely affecting the economy.
Earlier World Bank delegation also called on Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Isabel Guerrero told Dr Shaikh that the World Bank attached great importance to its ties with Pakistan and assured him of continued cooperation.
Earlier, the delegation was briefed about the state of Pakistan's economy, challenges faced by it and the government's economic initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shaikh appreciated the positive role of the WB in economic development of Pakistan.-Agencies
